BOY WHO STUDIED HIS OWN WORK AS PART OF THE SCHOOL SYLLABUS |

Not many would have the good fortune of having to study their own works in their classes. 13-year-old Mathew from Italy is certainly lucky in that aspect. The story of his family experiences, which he wrote as a 4th standard student in an Italian children’s magazine, was incorporated by the Education department as part of syllabus for social science for 6th and 7th standard students. And thus for 2 years he could study his own history as part of social science. A boy who loves languages, he has learned Spanish and French in addition to Italian and English. Next academic year he will be trying his hand at Greek. Though he was born and brought up in Italy, he can speak Malayalam. Writing in Malayalam, however, is not his forte. His explanation: “I am an Indian. And an Italian. And a bit of an Englishman!” At the age of 6˝ years Mathew had visited Canada and come back all alone. His father Dr.Thomas Myladoor runs an Indian restaurant, ‘Guru’, in Rome. His mother, Dr.Nancy, an ayurveda doctor, is a consultant at the Indian embassy and the Ministry of Health. Robert is his younger brother.
