10-year-old Abhiram wanted to learn swimming to get even with his friends.  Though his mother was reluctant, he managed to get the permission of his father.  But once he got into water, he astounded even seasoned swimmers with his innate talent.

He can float on water like cork for hours together.  And while so lying he can eat or even play the flute.

Though the spectators may be immersed in his flute recital, he may feel like sleeping.  Then it is a long nap, not on the bench by the side of the swimming pool, but on the surface of water itself.

After 40 winks it is time for yoga exercises.  Again the surface of water doubles up as floor.

His exploits in water have prompted coach Vijayakumar to prepare him to walk on water.  Abhiram is undergoing strenuous practice to achieve this feat.

This 5th standard student of Arya Central School, Pattam, Thiruvananthapuram is the son of Head Constable Balachandran and Sreelatha.  His sister Aparna is a student of Holy Angels’ Convent, Thiruvananthapuram.
