Advocate Rakhee
Sunil is a vibrant presence in the social sphere of Mubai, where
she is
involved in the education of about 200 children, giving legal aid to
the lowly
and ignorant and providing ear to the forsaken and forgotten.
After doing
her degree in Commerce, she specialized in Management studies, law and
human
rights. These became much useful tools
to her when she entered the social work phase of her life.
Initially
she worked for in the insurance sector, where daily interaction with
the ordinary
citizens of Mumbai gave her insight into the problems faced them. It was therefore only a natural transition
for her to wear the gowns of advocate and social worker.
Incidentally,
her mother Padma Divakaran was also noted advocate and social figure
beside
being an IRS officer.
In addition
to her social work, she has been active in the fields of Malayalee
samajams. In fact, she was the first to
break into the
till then male-dominated top echelons of those bodies.
Well known
social organisations like Rotary and Inner Wheel too have been graced
by her
presence in leadership roles.
Numerous
awards have come her way for her social work.
Perhaps a more notable happening has
been that her own daughter Nikita too is an advocate and is active in a
leadership role in Rotary.
