World is
looking at products that leave the least footprint in the soil after
their use.
And there are people who work towards that end and leave their
footprints in
the minds of others.
One such
product,
under the firm Follicena, is the production of plates and dinnerware
from sugarcane
bagasse. And a factory in Kozhikode is
one of the largest such producer in South India.
Run by a
trio of partners, the factory produces 13 varieties of dinnerware that
are
light in weight and gentle on the earth. One additional advantage of
the
product is that while being disposed, these plates can act as organic
fertilizer
for coconuts and other crops.
The bagasse
that comes as sheets is converted to pulp and moulded into different
products.
In fact, these plates etc. can even be reused, according to the trio.
