PERUMKULAM: THE BOOKS VILLAGE

Perumkulam, Kollam

Perumkulam, a village near Kottarakkara, has earned the sobriquet of Books Village, after books and book nests have become an integral part of it.

There are 11 book nests in the village, where eager readers can explore available books just as they would do in a library rack.  Besides this, the activists of Bapuji Library in the village have arranged for writing notes for students, conveying books to them through autorickshaws, arranging meeting of farmers etc.  In fact, it is their untiring effort that has resulted in the novel idea of book nests.

The aim of the library workers is to create better awareness in the villagers through books.

The Chief Minister declared the village as Books Village at a function on the Reading Day.
