The national Florence Nightingale award for best efforts in ministration has been conferred on Sr.Sunitha Chirayath of District Hospital, Kannur.
In her nursing career of 24 years, she has spent all but two years at the District Hospital, Kannur. Perhaps an innate urge, coupled with the training at the Holy Cross Convent has made her face the daily spectacle of gaping wounds and drooping bodies.
She is also active as a member of prison ministry and is involved in the guidance of prisoners’ children.
She is the eldest daughter of late John Chirayath and Treesa John of Nedupal, Irinjalakkuda, Thrissur. Her sibling Sr.Neena is also into the path of loving God by caring for the world. Another sister Seena is leading a family life.
She will receive the award from President Prathibha Patil on May 12, 2010. The award carries Rs.50000, a medal and citation.
